9-year-old accidentally shoots & kills her shooting instructor: Should shooting ranges have age requirements?
Of course they should. It's crazy to have a small person in control of a gun, Uzi or otherwise. The kick back of any gun is extremely powerful. I shoot guns and am a 120 lb woman and the kick back is something I actively have to control.
Yes, they should. They should have age requirements more so than, say, height requirements, which are now being considered by shooting ranges across America because of this tragedy.
I think it's crazy to put a sub machine gun in the hands of a 9 year old. Don't really think assault rifles should be a part of our culture. But that said, the instructor was a totally at fault here. Stand behind a nine year old kid about go fire a machine gun for his sake. Of COURSE the recoil will be a surprise stand behind her to brace her. Put a hand on her arm to help. A nine gear old child has to live with the memory is something that an adult was responsible for
Absolutely. That gun was clearly not appropriate for someone of her age and size. She probably sat in a booster seat on the way to the range. It is unfortunate this happened, but I do hope that it causes ranges to reconsider safety policies.
